“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything form the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. James 1:5-8
The Biblical promise given in James 1:5 is huge. If we lack wisdom, the only requirement to get wisdom is to ask believing God will hear us and grant our request. An excellent prayer to utilize is the Serenity Prayer. In recent years this prayer seems to have been hijacked by the recovery community. I am glad that many who are recovering from destructive addictions are employing the prayer successfully. However, it is worth noting that most are only aware of the first four lines of the prayer. I offer it in its entirety here and encourage you to utilize it whenever necessary, like TODAY!
The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.
